about

Jäcklein Rohrbach was a peasant leader and one of the prominent figures in the peasant uprising that spread around southern Germany in the 1520s. He led the peasants during the successful storm on the Weinsberg castle in 1525, during which the residing count Ludwig von Helfenstein and his vassals were tortured and killed by making them run the gauntlet. This event is remembered to this day as the Weinsberger Bluttat. Shortly afterwards Jäcklein Rohrbach was captured and sentenced to death by burning, while his fellow peasants were decapitated and hung from trees.
